Movie Outing for all students Sat 2004-12-18

Toronto Dance has the exclusive use of a movie theatre to show dance-related movies. On Sat Nov 20, 1:30 to 3:10pm, we are showing "Burn The Floor". Outing for Salsa-Nightclub students Fri 2004-12-03

There is an official outing Fri Dec 3 to Lula Lounge for students at all levels. Please check your emails for details. The cost is $5/person for Toronto Dance students and their guests (arrive around 8:45pm) - you must be on a list to get in for that price. The regular cost is $10/p. There is a beginner lesson 9:00-10:00pm included in the $5 price.

Our own instructors, Caryl Cuizon and Chuan Chee, are teaching the beginner salsa lesson. One of Toronto's best salsa bands, Cache, is playing.

Outing for Latin-Ballroom students Fri 2004-11-19

There is an official outing Fri Nov 11 to Westway Club for Latin-Ballroom students at all levels. Please check your emails for details.

Westway Club is located on 291 Evans St - click here for a map. It starts at 8:00pm. The cost is $15 including a light hot meal at 10:00pm. Dress code applies - no jeans or T-shirts. Contact us if you are interested in joining us.

Outing report: There were 34 Toronto Dance members and 9 guests for a total of 43 attendees.

There is an unofficial outing Fri Nov 19 to Acrobat Lounge for students level 2 and higher. Please check your emails for details. There is a beginner and an intermediate lesson 8:45-9:45pm included in the price.

Watch a Latin-Ballroom competition Sat 2004-11-13

Come out and watch local latin-ballroom competitors. The "Maple Leaf Classic" competition is at the Thornhill Community Centre, 7755 Bayview Ave (NE corner of Bayview Ave and John St). Click here for a map to the place. Contact us if you are interested in going.

• 9:30am to noon: Junior and Junvenille competitions

Outing for Salsa-Nightclub students Thurs 2004-11-11

There is an official outing Thurs Nov 11 to El Rancho for students at all levels. Please check your emails for details.

Outing report: There were 65 Toronto Dance members and 15 guests for a total of 80 people. This is great considering it was a Thurs night. Also because the floor was mainly for Toronto Dance from 8-10pm, there was plenty of space to dance and everyone enjoyed it. The music was good too.

Night of Jazz and Dance Sat 2004-11-06

There is a big Jazz event with a live orchestra and singer and dancers at the York Event Theatre on Sat Nov 6. The location is on Eglinton Ave, just east of Yonge on the south side. The event is called Jazzed. Click here for details and ticket information. Alana Hock, our Lindy Hop instructor will be performing a few dances there approximately 9:30pm. The Toronto Jazz Orchestra (a 18-piece jazz band) will be providing the music and the Canadian jazz diva Diane Taylor will sing a few songs with the band starting at 8:30pm.

If you are interested in dinner, we have a very special discount. However, you must eat dinner at 8-9pm for the discount. Again, you must be on the list to get that discount.

Outing report: We had 89 Toronto Dance members and 78 guests for a total of 167 people! The dinner was amazing, especially since we managed to get a 30% discount on the meal. The entire left side of Lula Lounge was reserved for Toronto Dance. Chuan taught a large class of over 120 people. Luckily a mic was supplied.

Halloween Outing for Salsa-Nightclub students Fri 2004-10-29

The cost is $10/person before 10:30pm and $15/person after 10:30pm for Toronto Dance students and their guests (arrive around 8:45pm) - you must be on a list to get in for that price. The regular cost is $15/p. There is a beginner and an intermediate lesson 8:45-9:45pm included in the $10 price.

For this party, there are prices for the top 3 best costumes and food (pizza, pasta, nachos for the first 150 people). Plan your costumes now!

Outing report: This is our biggest outing so far with 143 Toronto Dance students and 88 guests for a total of 231 people! It was definitely not easy for Sharon to teach all those students! Toronto Dance definitely needs its own exclusive nightclub!

TV Show "Live To Dance!" Wed 2004-10-20

There is a 10-episode 30-min TV series called "Live To Dance" on the Life Network. Click here for program details. This traces couples through their competitive dancing called "DanceSport".

Episode 1 is aired on Wed Oct 20 at 3:30pm and 9:30pm and on Mon Oct 25 4:30am.

Movie: "Shall We Dance?" Sat 2004-10-16

There is a new movie called "Shall We Dance?" out Oct 15. This is an English-language remake of the 1996 Japanese movie of the same title. Filming started 2003-06-23 in Winnipeg. The movie was original coming out Aug 6 but it was delayed. Premise: An overworked Chicago accountant John Clark (Richard Gere), tired of the boring routine that his life has become, sees a beautiful dance teacher Paulina (Jennifer Lopez) through a window and decides to start taking lessons from her in order to get to know her better, and as the joy of dancing enters his life, he discovers that it might just be the secret to saving his troubled marriage (wife Susan Sarandon). As the accountant's skill as a dancer improves, he eventually signs up for the Chicago Crystal Ball Dance Competition.

Outing report: We had 18 Toronto Dance students and 5 guests for a total of 23. After the movie, 18 of us went to a nice dessert place to socialize. The movie was reasonable but the original 1996 Japanese version was better. We plan to show this movie to Toronto Dance students in November.

Toronto Salsa Congress Fri-Sun 2004-10-08/10

There is a Salsa Congress in Toronto Friday to Sunday Oct 8 to 10. It will be held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto hotel at 123 Queen St. W. (at Bay St.).

The full congress pass costs C$235 or C$200 by Sep 8. If you purchase the full pass before Sep 8, you will be entered into a draw to win a trip to Puerto Rico. Other packages are also available.

World Professional 10-Dance Championships Fri-Sat 2004-10-08/09

There is a Latin-Ballroom World Professional 10-Dance Championship competition in Montreal Friday to Saturday Oct 8 to 9. The competitors are some of the best in the world! This is the first time it is held in North America so don't miss the opportunity!!

There is an official outing to Famee Furlane for Latin-Ballroom students at all levels. It is located at 7065 Islington Ave, just north of Steeles. The cover charge is $15 which includes an intermediate lesson 8:30-9:30pm, a hot chicken dinner 10:00-10:30pm, and dancing 9:30pm-midnight.
